Kristin Lee is a licensed professional counselor committed to empowering her clients through increased autonomy and self-discovery. With over a decade of experience in working in public schools, she embodies a client-centered approach that honors the unique strengths and aspirations of each individual. Kristin works with children, adolescents, and adults through individual, family, and group therapy.
Kristin holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and an additional Master’s degree in Learning Behavior Specialist and Bilingual Education, both from National Louis University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Hispanic Studies from Illinois Wesleyan University and is currently working towards a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from Northern Illinois University.
Believing that therapy should be a collaborative journey, Kristin engages clients as active participants in their healing process. She employs a range of evidence-based interventions—including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, and strengths-based techniques—to support clients in developing greater self-efficacy and independence.
Before transitioning to private practice, Kristin worked in a large school district in the area. As an English Language Learner Learning Behavior Specialist, she was a case manager and supported students who had special needs and who were learning English as an additional language. Her diverse background fuels her strong interest in working with individuals from various backgrounds and experiences. Kristin also spent time practicing in a Partial Hospitalization Program for adolescents as well as a Chemical Dependency Unit through a large suburban hospital.
Kristin specializes in issues such as anxiety, school refusal, relationship dynamics, and personal growth. She is passionate about helping clients identify their own solutions and build the skills necessary to navigate life’s challenges with confidence. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, Kristin encourages clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, empowering them to make informed choices aligned with their values.
Outside of her practice, Kristin is dedicated to staying informed about the latest advancements in therapy and is currently researching the alignment of accommodations and services across different settings to promote client growth. She views therapy as a process and is here to support you on your journey toward self-discovery, growth, and empowerment.
As Carl Rogers said, “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”
